IMO (Independent Marketing Organization)
An IMO is a wholesale insurance distributor that contracts independent agents with multiple carriers and provides marketing, training, and contracting support. For FE specifically, common IMOs include Senior Life Services, FFL, Lincoln Heritage, Symmetry, and Equis. Most independent FE agents are contracted under an IMO.
IMOs differ in compensation level (street commission percentage), lead programs offered, training quality, and contracting flexibility (releasable vs captive).
The IMO an agent is contracted under affects FE ad strategy in subtle ways: some IMOs provide leads as part of the contract, some don't; some have proprietary CRM systems agents must use; some require specific compliance language on marketing.
